Jōji Koizumi (小泉譲二 Koizumi Jōji), also known as George, is a main character in the Paradise Kiss anime and manga series.
George is a fashiom design student who attends Yazawa School for the Arts, the creator of the group ParaKiss, and the love interest of Yukari Hayasaka.
Biography[]
George is known to be a manipulative, yet quite charming, man that leads the Paradise Kiss group of fashion design students at the atelier.
George carries himself with all the swagger expected of a wealthy bachelor and is the illegitimate son of a CEO.
Since childhood, George was passionate about fashion design. He's been making dresses alongside his friend, Isabella Yamamoto, since they were kids. Isabella's first dress was hand-sewn by George. He tells her that she doesn't have to dress like a boy if she doesn't want to do so, and is free to choose her own identity.
George falls for Yukari over the course of the story, referring her as his muse, yet she also exasperates him with her lack of conviction. George is often hot and cold with her. He seems to enjoy toying with her emotions and naivete.
After the disbanding of ParaKiss, Yukari and George break off their relationship as he decides to go to Paris instead of remaining in Japan--their brand never sold a single piece of clothing.
His wealthy father agrees to pay for George to go to Paris and study Haute Couture rather than ready-to-wear clothing. He plans to leave for France by himself until Isabella Yamamoto joins him at the last minute, as she wishes to continue creating his dress patterns.
Appearance[]
George’s anime appearance
George's live-action appearance
George is described as a handsome man with a lean build.
He has a light complexion, three hoop piercings, short dyed blue hair, and blue eyes. In the manga and anime, his outward appearance causes Yukari to comically remark that he resembles like an alien from outer space. His appearance is based off of Brian Slade, the main character in the punk rock movie Velvet Goldmine.
His day to day fashion is bold--almost prince-like--as most of his outfits are complemented with frills, posh hats, and decadent fabrics. George's style embodies a wealthy bachelor with no cares in the world.
Personality and Traits[]
George is a consummate artist.
George oscillates between hot and cold, charismatic and rude, but is content to just smirk most of the time. Although he cares deeply about those in his inner circle, there also instances where his bluntness comes off as rude even to them. George does not care about meeting anyone's expectations of him, including Yukari's. He speaks his mind without caring about what anyone else might think, even if it's ridiculous or lewd.
George is a controlling man with a manipulative streak, he does what it takes to get what he wants with no shame whatsoever. This is shown when he called Yukari's house to see where she was or drove to her school to return her ID to her. He encourages his friends to discover the depths of their ambitions and boldly embrace their own identities, as self-expression is something he considers tantamount. He despises when women put the pursuit of romance before all else, something he observed in his mother and father's destructive relationship. He deeply respects Kaori for prioritizing her career over flirting with him, then chastises Yukari for hiding her modelling job from him to sleep together instead.
George is bisexual, claiming to be an "equal opportunity lover." He flirts with nearly everyone in the cast, even Arashi.
To him, his clothing designs are the purest art. George does not seem to care whether Paradise Kiss' clothing actually sells or not.
